Chaddesley Corbett
WI - Eggs was the theme of the April meeting. Janet Farmer gave a talk about the significance of eggs around the world. She demonstrated how she makes a chocolate egg using a mould and showed a variety of eggs, mainly goose or duck eggs, that she had painted using acrylic paints.
Christine Kenrick reported on the annual council meeting. On May 1, Chaddesley WI will act as hosts to Hillside WI with whom they are "twinned" as part of the 90th birthday celebrations. A guided bluebell walk through Chaddesley Woods by Mervyn Needham, voluntary reserve manager, will be followed by supper at the village hall.
Norah's ramble will be on May 12, meeting as usual at the Lych Gate at 10am. The walk will be to Deansford Farm and Fishers Castle. Everyone welcome.
The next meeting will be on May 7 when the national resolutions will be discussed. For information, call Jackie Emeny on 01562 770015. New members welcome.
GARDENERS' CLUB - Philip Aubrey, former director of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, spoke to the April meeting on the subject of vegetable growing.
The first group outing in 2008 took place on April 16 when members spent an evening at Wootten Grange Farm. Jean Tarmey showed members round her NGS garden and served tea and home-made cakes afterwards.
The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 14 when Celia Davis will be talking about insects in the garden - friend or foe'. Meetings are held in the Village Hall, Chaddesley Corbett at 7.30pm for 8pm and guests are welcome. For more information, please call Jean Smith on 01527 861437.
