CLASSICAL MUSIC SOCIETY - Tony Baker presented a programme of recorded music under the heading "Out and About". He began with 18th century composers, Michael Haydn and Johann Christian Bach, featuring the latter's Sextet for oboe, violin, cello, two horns and forte piano.
An unusual recording of Elgar's Sea Pictures was heard - sung in Russian in a 1977 recording, conducted by Svetlanov.
Tony recalled a concert in October 1983 in Birmingham Town Hall, when he heard the USSR State Symphony Orchestra with soloist Valery Kimov performing Khachaturian's violin concerto, and a recording of this work, played by Klimov, was then heard.
The programme ended with the work of a composer who is still living, John Metcalf, with a setting of plain chants performed by a choir from Cardiff.
