Village bursts into bloom
VILLAGERS in Chaddesley Corbett will open the doors of St Cassian's Church in the centre of the village on Saturday, May 31 at 10.30am for the first flower festival for nearly 10 years.
Local children will be invited to make daisy chains which will all be fixed together to make a chain of flowers all around the church.
Festival organiser Rosabelle Needham said: "We wanted to celebrate the wonderful flowers and plants that we have growing in this part of Worcestershire.
"I think it will surprise many people quite what a variety there is."
Jonathan Swift, chairman of the parish council added: "Chaddesley Corbett is a truly traditional English village.
"Parts of the village haven't changed for generations and this will give visitors and local people the opportunity to see the village and its church in its full glory."
In addition to the flowers in the church and around the village, local gardens will be open on the Saturday and there will be traditional English teas served in the Church all weekend.
The festival begins on the Friday night, May 30, with a summer supper and drinks in the church, where there will be a talk entitled 'shepherd of two flocks' given by Rev Celia Carter.
Local children including Brownies, the Sunday School and pupils from Chaddesley Corbett Primary School have all been voting for their favourite hymns for the family service on Sunday morning and the festival will close on Sunday night with a songs of praise service at 6.30pm.
