Charity lunch sold out

A WYRE Forest charity's annual luncheon is a sell-out with 170 tickets sold for the event at the Granary Hotel and Restaurant, Shenstone, next Wednesday.

Popular guest speaker, Professor Lawrence Young, former head of cancer studies and director of the Cancer Research UK Institute for Cancer Studies at Birmingham University, will talk about work being carried out to find cures and treatments for a variety of cancers at the district's Cancer Research UK event..

He has recently been appointed head of the university's new College of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Services.

Wyre Forest Cancer Research UK Committee chairman, Peter Tomlinson, said: "The luncheon always proves one of our biggest draws, with good food and good company at a delightful venue and this year looks like being a record.

"It is a way of saying thank you to our many supporters while, at the same time, raising vital funds.

"Prof Young is a tremendous speaker and very engaging. He always has fascinating and totally uplifting news to tell us."
