The centenary of the outbreak of World War I will be marked during a public event next month in Walthamstow.

An evening of film, poetry and speakers, entitled The Truth Behind World War One, will be held on March 5.

Speakers include the son of WWI signaller Sam Sutcliffe who in March 1918 and at the age of 19 was fighting as part of the 2nd Batallion, Essex Regiment, in France when two German soldiers spared his life.

The free event, hosted by the Waltham Forest branch of Left Unity, will be held at the William Morris Community Centre in Greenleaf Road, Walthamstow, at 7.30pm.
