WHILST I endorse G Walters' call (Shuttle Opinion, March 20) for concerned residents to write and email the county council regarding the “temporary” closure of the Hoo Brook Recycling Centre in Kidderminster, my experience does not bode well.

At the last meeting of Aggborough and Spennells PACT on January 27, residents expressed concern that the proposed “temporary” closure of their local recycling centre would prove to be otherwise, and that the Stourport Road facility would be the sole future focus for the district and the facility on the Dog Lane car park at Bewdley will be extinguished as part of the medical centre proposals.

I was, therefore, instructed to write to the Head of Waste Management at Worcestershire County Council to express residents’ concern that fly-tipping would increase as a consequence of the closure and to enquire as to the programmed date for re-opening. I duly wrote on February 1, but have had neither answer nor even acknowledgement.

Meanwhile, the fears expressed have already manifested themselves, with all Neighbourhood Watch Groups in the district being advised this week by West Mercia Police that there are increased incidents of fly-tipping in Blakedown and the rural areas of Wyre Forest.
