AS a student nurse in the later stages of my training, I find it increasingly worrying to see that more and more NHS trusts are willing to import their nurses from overseas, despite having a brand new workforce ready to begin their careers every six months.

It costs them time and money to train these nurses in line with up-to-date policies and procedures.

I am in a cohort that is the very first of the degree level trained nurses yet I and many others are finding that the government demand these high standards yet make cuts to valuable resources, staff and facilities affecting those who need it most – our patients.

We are taught in university to manage and lead the change for the NHS, but is it not more important for us to bring fresh ideas and change our practices. I have chosen this career because I want to make patient experience positive and comfortable, not worry if the NHS can afford it.
