ONLY yesterday I was saying to my wife that it was great having a massive bank of nettles in the dog walking area at the top of Spennells.

They were in an area where nobody walks. They provide security for the houses they back on to but most importantly, they provide an excellent butterfly habitat.

At this time of year they will probably contain thousands of butterfly eggs and caterpillars.

This morning, the whole lot have been mowed down.

This is tragic vandalism.

Surely it’s time Wyre Forest Council woke up.

I think that 50% of the mowed areas in Wyre Forest could become wild flower meadows without causing any traffic visibility issues or other problems.

This would not only provide essential support for pollinators but would also save thousands of pounds every year.
