I WAS interested in Mark Garnier’s View from Westminster (January 29) and his highlighting of the power of corporations such as Tesco, over planning and communities.

Mr Garnier and his party are about to hand even more power to corporations by way of the secretive Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

The UK government, the US and 13 other EU members give corporations licence to sue governments over laws which may affect their profits.

Public services are in the firing line of this agreement. A prime objective is to open up public services such as education, water and essential services including the NHS, to US corporations for privatisation.

Further worry is the abandonment of a fundamental principle of justice.

The UK government will be part of setting up a judicial system exclusively for the use of corporations.

They will be allowed to take their case to a tribunal of corporate lawyers and challenge the laws they don’t like; and seek massive compensation if these are deemed to affect their profits.

Mr Garnier, the Localism Act you refer to will be small fry, and I wonder how you will vote (if you are allowed one) on the TTIP.
