ON MY increasingly rare visits to my old home village of Wolverley, I still view the area through the eyes of a district councillor and probably notice areas of need that may go unnoticed by others.

On one of those recent visits, I was greatly concerned to see the poor condition of the “round wall” which runs round from Wolverley through to Cookley. In several areas there are signs where the wall has collapsed, and in many others, the wall is in a potentially dangerous state, looking as it is about to collapse.

This is of great concern, especially the stretch from the Lock Inn to the Lea Castle riding school entrance, which is adjoined by a narrow footpath, but one used regularly by dozens of pupils from the Wolverley High School walking towards Broadwaters.

My fear is a collapse could occur when a child is passing, or a collapse would block the footway making students walk in the road, which was the scene of a recent fatality.

A serious collapse already happened along Lea Lane and I fear this will reoccur.

I am mindful that each section of the wall is part of private property, but I believe it is the duty of either the district or county council to initiate steps to ensure either the wall is repaired, or that the ownership if sections are identified, and owners notified of their duty to repair before a serious incident occurs.
