Your article in The Shuttle (March 26) mentioned the prospect of the Local Advisory Poll in Kidderminster on Thursday May 7, asking Kidderminster residents if they would vote for an elected Town Council .

I would strongly urge residents to vote “Yes”.

We need a Town Council to give a strong voice for Kidderminster Town.

Currently, those of us elected in Kidderminster to serve on Wyre Forest District Council, also serve as Kidderminster Charter Trustees.

This is the body that votes for and supports the Mayor.

Stourport on Severn and Bewdley have elected Town Councils and each has provision for pursuing specific projects in their respective towns.

Kidderminster has no such facility.

Why have we had to wait over 40 years to have this vote?

Because various Governments considered Kidderminster “too big” to have a Town Council.

We need elected Town Councillors to speak for KidderminsterIf a Unitary Authority is established for Worcestershire, and I hope one is, then Kidderminster would be lost without its own Town Council.

It is an historic fault which must be corrected by a “Yes” vote for a Kidderminster Town Council on Thursday May 7.
