With understandable local concerns with what might happen to the Squirrel Pub in Areley Kings, could we rule out the possibility of another prime retail purchase , therefore causing the same concerns with local residents as the previous Tesco bid had done, and think more on the lines of housing potential.

The property could be internally converted to some smart maisonettes, whilst retaining the outer shell to preserve character in the area.

This would not only keep the cost down , but prevent extensive alteration to the building so could be put through quicker. Surely, we could easily find an independent property development company to be interested in the property, or maybe the council would consider its purchase with a view to community housing.

I believe the same thing has been done, quite tastefully to other closed public houses. With so-called shortage of housing , surely this would make good of the situation for all concerned.
