Is there a town anywhere in Britain with worse public toilet provision than Stourport?

It is the policy of Conservativecontrolled Wyre Forest District Council that two toilet blocks, in the Vale Road and Raven Street car parks, stand unused.

The only offer in the town centre is a “community toilet” in a public house.

Well done if you can spot the signage to it, in the street, or in the pub.

The only public toilet block is very poorly situated, on a riverside car park - and there are no footpaths leading to it.

Pedestrians, wheelchair users and parents pushing buggies on their way to the toilets have to beware of moving vehicles, which are entitled to use the same areas of tarmac.

Limited public services and greater reliance on the private sector are policies fully in line with the Conservative government’s agenda.

In the near future, therefore, we cannot expect better public toilet provision in Stourport.

However, now as ward councillor for “Riverside”, (in addition to Areley Kings), I have written to the council with suggestions about improved pedestrian access to the toilets.

Also, I have met a council officer on site and am hopeful that improvements will be made.
