WELL done to Stourport Town Council for unanimously condemning the planners’ opposition to the proposed new Samurai Judo Club building.
Our community is crying out for sports projects like this, which will take children (and adults) off the streets and away from their computers and give them something constructive and useful to do.
My son was a member of the club for many years, from a young child until moving away to university, and he benefited hugely in terms of health, enjoyment and character and social development.
It would be a shame if future generations do not have the same opportunity.
And have you seen the area the planners are trying to preserve? The proposed site is a derelict eyesore, former tarmac tennis courts which have been unused for nearly 20 years to my knowledge, surrounded by a sprawling car park and industrial units. Green belt?
Watching the British do so well at the Olympics was inspiring. This club will almost certainly have one, possibly two Olympic competitors at London 2012.
Wyre Forest District Council should be backing them to the hilt (Stourport Town Council clearly are) and the planners should be doing the same.

The Shuttle have given us marvellous coverage of our local young people competing on The Worlds greatest sporting stage, The Olympic games. We now have Wyre Forest sports people representing our County in The Paralympics and we are getting the same coverage from The Shuttle, even an online blog arranged. Fantastic, well done The Shuttle.
Now for London 2012. We have a very realistic chance of having a young lady from The Wyre Forest area, representing us on The Judo mat. What do our planners do to encourage a possible Wyre Forest olympian? Say that they are against the building new Judo premises, why? According to planners, it is in The Green belt. I urge the planners and councillors to look at Google earth's satellite pictures on the internet. It maybe deemed a green belt by planners but all I see are several factory units that in size would engulf new judo premises several times over.
Come on planning officers, listen to The enlightened Stourport councillors give our young people a chance at competing with the very best The World can offer and at the same time place our area at the for front of sporting achievement.
