THERE seems to be short sightedness regarding parking restrictions in Blackwell Street, Kidderminster.

I refer to the letter in the Shuttle of October 2 from Mr Harvey regarding parking at the foot of the Orchard Street steps in Blackwell Street while he goes shopping.

There are double yellow lines with double yellow markings on the kerb, meaning no loading or unloading at any time and this also applies to blue badge holders.

The issue regarding Mrs Walker is totally different. Connect is the office for Worcestershire County Council for people with physical and sensory disabilities in Wyre Forest.

There used to be a single yellow line outside Connect but this was replaced by Worcestershire County Council – not Wyre Forest District Council – with double yellow lines with double yellow markings on the kerb, preventing loading and unloading.

These restrictions have made visiting Connect by people with disabilities a miserable affair.

The county council has failed under its Disability Equality Scheme to help disabled people to get involved in public life. It has failed to give extra help to disabled people in using council services.

The county council failed under policies and function to undertake a disability equality impact assessment when installing the parking restrictions outside Connect.

If the council took the views of people with disabilities seriously they would rethink the parking restrictions outside Connect.
