IT was frightening to read an account of the Wyre Forest district planing committee proceedings, concerning the proposed 200 homes which will be built on the Churchfields Business Park site, between Clensmore Street and Red Sands Road, Kidderminster.

I am fully in favour of this plan, but amused and shocked to read that Councillor Douglas Godwin of Rock stated: “There are no schools, shops, church, even a public house.”

Those of us who know the area in question know that there is St Mary’s Primary School nearby. There are shops in the Horsefair and Sainsbury’s can be reached on foot over the canal bridge. There are pubs and bars aplenty not far away.

Four places of worship are within easy reach – The Salvation Army, Trinity Methodist Church, St Mary’s and St George’s churches. All of these provide the possibility of venues for public meetings.

Any councillor on the planning committee should invest in maps of Wyre Forest district and not rely on developers’ plans of a limited area.
