Royal music night lifted town spirits

SOMETHING beautiful happened for Kidderminster on Saturday, July 14.

At a time when our town struggles with loss of certain facilities and with cutbacks in much-valued services, it was wonderful to be present in Kidderminster Town Hall for the celebration of royal music for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Congratulations to Kidderminster Choral Society, the Elgar Sinfonia, Wyre Forest Young Voices, organist Marcus Huxley and conductor Geoffrey Weaver.

This was a great example of people working very hard for the love of music. The town hall was restored to its historic dignity and importance.

May I quote from the words of the Music Makers, which was performed that evening.

“We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams,

Wandering by lone sea-breakers and sitting by desolate streams;

World-losers and world forsakers, on whom the pale moon gleams,

Yet we are the movers and shakers of the world forever, it seems.”
