BOOTS in Kidderminster will be taking over the former Brantano footwear store next month.

The health and beauty giant will be relocating fromthe Swan Centre to WeaversWharf on November 21, as its currentlease is coming to an end.

Bosses said they wanted to ensure “our stores are conveniently located to allow easy access to our products and services”.

Ros Darby, Swan Centre manager, said she did notthink the store would stay empty for long, adding there had been “a bit” of interest in it already.

The chances of anyone lasing the Boots store with the proliferation of market stalls cheapening the centre is very unlikely. At least places like the Bull Ring and Merry Hill have "quality" island stores but the Swan Centre is full of cheap market type stalls. In fact perhaps the management could turn the shop into an indoor market, as they do in second rate shopping centres in other towns, like Dudley.

The swan centre is full of tacky market stalls selling cheap goods that surrounding shops are already selling but with none of the overheads rates electric etc !! There is already a make up stall set up near Boots selling cheap cosmetics as well as a stall selling painkillers The stall holders park on pedestrian area outside swan centre with no parking tickets given most days ??

The Council really need to take drastic action with the town centre , i was really shocked to walk down Worcester st, almost every shop is empty ! , but we are never going to get back to the towns best days , Kidderminster was once up there with Dudley and Wolverhampton as busy shopping towns, The answer in my eyes is the following : 1) free parking, this would enable us to compete with the out of town stalls and Merry Hill. 2) sub divide a lot of the bigger shops into cheap to rent units, people may be prepared to start a small venture if rents were cheap and leases of say 3 months max,
If one looks at the Horsefair and Comberton hill, you can see that there is barely a vacant shop . and easy / free parking. 3) convert empty shops into housing which would get the town centre back to life , all else is pretty much a non starter.
