Cleobury Mortimer's MP backing charity trustees week
11:39am Thursday 1st November 2012 in Local
CLEOBURY Mortimer’s MP is backing the national Trustees Week by thanking local charity trustees for their dedicated work and highlighting the benefits of becoming one.
The initiative begins next Monday and runs until Sunday, November 11. It aims to celebrate the charity trustee role, encourage people to get involved in running charities and raise awareness of how people can do so, gaining experience and skills.
Conservative Phlilip Dunne said: “We are fortunate to have a large number of volunteers supporting many local charities in the Ludlow constituency.
“These cover a wide range of activities and services but all depend on the trustees that oversee their work, most of whom are also volunteers. I want to pay tribute to their tireless work to make our local community an even better place.
“I strongly encourage people to consider becoming a trustee. Being a charity trustee is a great way of learning new skills, meeting new people and gaining valuable experience. It can also lead to new opportunities and employment.
“Charity Commission figures suggest that around half of registered charities have a trustee vacancy on their board, so I encourage anyone to get involved in this great form of volunteering.”
