Town bid to take over play area

First published in Local

STOURPORT Town Council hopes to gain ownership of a play area in Worth Crescent in order to purchase and install new play equipment.

The council has passed a motion agreeing to begin negotiations with Wyre Forest Housing Association (WFHA), which currently owns the land.

Money collected from the former Bewdley Road Morgan Advanced Ceramics site, paid to the council to reduce the impact of a new housing development, could be used to fund the project.

Independent Community and Health Concern councillor Jim Parish told the town council he envisaged a gift of the land from WFHA.

He said: “The money we could use is collected from Stourport and should be spent on the people of Stourport.

“It’s the local children who need the benefit of a playground rather than the people who visit us on a Saturday and a Sunday.

“We cannot spend the money there if the land is not in the control of Stourport Town Council."

Why shouldn't they have it ? The people of Stourport have paid for all land within the Town Council area, over and over again, and if the WF Housing Association is just a spin-off of WFDC (which I believe it to be), and the people of Stourport are also WF Residents paying part of their Council Tax for the running, ownership etc of WF, doesn't that make them owners of this land, park etc. This is for the children of the residents of Stourport on Severn - when will these councillors get the message? You were elected to SERVE the people not the other way round - don't make decisions that go against the wishes of your bosses, if you did that at work you would get sacked, think on!! There isn't a "bigger picture" !!

Also it mostly private housing there's a big under used park just down the road,is it to far for them to walk.If they want to sell it or are they going to stop them using it unless they buy it or threatening to put planning in for low cost housing.
