THE man who died in a crash in Kidderminster after his car hit a tree in the early hours of this morning was aged 78.
The pensioner, from the Kidderminster area, was pronounced dead at the scene of the smash, which happened at the junction of the B4189 Park Gate Road and A451 Stourbridge Road, near the Park Gate pub.
The red Vauxhall Agila he was driving left the carriageway before hitting the tree at about 12.40am.
Roads were closed until around 4am to allow investigations into the cause to be carried out and the vehicle to be removed.
The man has not yet been named and police are now appealing for information about the crash.
PC Dave Langridge of West Mercia Police said: "As with all fatal and serious injury collisions, there will be a thorough investigation into the circumstances.
"Our thoughts are with the elderly man's family and friends at this sad time."
Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact PC Langridge or Sergeant Matt Eddy at the Force Operations Support Team at Rubery Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident 13-s-100113.
