STAFF at a hotel in Kidderminster are celebrating after it was voted one of the top 25 bargain hotels in the United Kingdom – less than a year after opening.

The Premier Inn, in Weavers Wharf, came sixth in the Travellers Choice 2013 awards on TripAdivisor, a website that features reviews and advice on hotels and holidays, beating big cities and UK holiday resorts.

The hotel, which opened its doors above Debenhams last March, was praised as a “hidden gem” and a “super inexpensive hotel” by customers on the popular reviews website.

One review said: “Hotel is very clean and the location is perfect.

Still a very new hotel. Staff including waiting on and kitchen staff couldn't do enough for you.”

Chris Thacker, business developer and Premier host, said the hotel helped boost the local economy.

“With the unfortunate demise of Comet and Jessops recently, it is nice that the town has some positive news, “ he said.

“The staff are thrilled that we have been given an award and even more so to be number six after only opening in March, 2012, while being chosen above major cities and many UK holiday resorts.

“We have many guests staying at the hotel who visit the West Midland Safari Park and the Severn Valley Railway and, in turn, is a boost to our local economy.

“As the building is Grade II listed and a former carpet mill, many of our guests are delighted we have kept the town’s heritage, with the exposed brickwork feature and wooden beams in our ‘Kitchen’ restaurant.

“We would like to thank our guests for their support and we look forward to a successful 2013.
