PREPARATIONS for this year’s popular Bewdley Carnival are already under way.

The annual extravaganza will be held on Saturday, June 8 and organisers are planning for another successful event.

Thousands of people flock to the town every year for the carnival, which includes a procession and plenty of fun and games on the carnival field.

Organisers are looking for bands to take part in the parade this year and are also appealing for new members to join the committee to give a hand with the activities on the day.

Each year, the parade travels from Hales Park into the town centre before arriving at the carnival field at the Bewdley Leisure Centre for more entertainment.

Angela Pitt, secretary of the Bewdley Carnival Committee, said they were hoping to make the parade bigger than it had been in the past.

“We’ve only got the Bewdley Scout and Guide Band so far taking part in the parade so to bulk it out and to give it a bit more music and make it livelier, we would like some more bands to take part,” she said.

“We would also like some people to come along with vehicles for the parade. In the past we’ve had wheely bins and pushchairs. We want everybody to come along, even in just fancy dress, to bulk up the parade.

“It doesn’t take an awful lot to dress up and have fun. If we can make it even bigger and better than last year it would be brilliant.”

About 2,000 culture revellers braved the rain to attend last year’s event and floats, walking groups, vintage and classic cars joinef the parade.

The next Bewdley Carnival Committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 13 at Bewdley Bowling Club, Severnside North at 7.30pm.
