A STOURPORT town councillor is calling for a reduced speed limit and weight restrictions on a Stourport lane to avoid a “nasty” accident.
Labour councillor David Keogh-Smith is urging Worcestershire County Council to apply the restrictions in Kingsway after re-surfacing work was carried out last year.
Mr Keogh-Smith told Stourport Town Council that since the improvements were made, the lane has seen an increase in traffic particularly large vehicles, including buses and lorries.
He said: “The road is a dangerous road in its current situation. We need a reduced speed and weight restrictions to avoid a nasty accident.”
He also added that the lane is narrowed further due to people parking in front of the allotments.
The proposed motion states: “The size, speed and number of vehicles using the lane has made the route particularly hazardous for cyclists and pedestrians.
“The added problem for pedestrians is that there are no footpaths and few places where you are able to step off the lane.
“Accidental near misses have already occurred and speed and weight restrictions would greatly improve safety for those using the lane.”
The motion was approved and seconded by the town council which will contact the county council highways authority to urge them to introduce restrictions.
