Kidderminster poppy appeal collects more than £32k

GENEROUS Kidderminster residents have been praised after raising more than £32,000 for the town’s Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

The group collected £32,029 during the 2012 fundraising campaign, just fewer than the previous year’s record-breaking £32,190.

In an open letter to the people of Kidderminster, the town’s RBL branch treasurer, Henry Atkins, said: “We wish to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. This will help to keep our good work going for some time.

“All you wonderful people out there amaze us with your generosity every year. You can be openly pleased with yourselves to raise this amount with money being short and with us all tightening our belts.”

He also described seeing the total as a “like a tonic”.

Anyone interested in volunteering with the Kidderminster branch should contact president Larry Billingsley on 01562 741532 or Mr Atkins on 01562 637784.
