A RAFFLE night with a DJ spinning the decks will help boost the coffers of the Shuttle-backed scanner appeal.

The fund-raising event is being organised by resident Mandy Priest, who wanted to help after reading about the Kidderminster Hospitals League of Friends’ appeal in The Shuttle.

The hospital is upgrading its CT (computed tomography) scanner and the appeal hopes to raise £65,000 for computer software to enable more accurate diagnosis and another £60,000 to cover the cost of building work.

Mrs Priest said: “I saw the scanner appeal in the paper and thought it was a good cause.”

She added she was hoping local businesses would donate prizes for the raffle.

Peter Picken, of the League of Friends, said he was “very pleased” with the response to the appeal so far.

“The response from the community has been very good and we’ve had a number of people already who have indicated that they will be holding events to support it, “he said.

“Mandy is the first person to come forward so quickly with her event. It’s an event that both younger people and older people can join in and I think her efforts are to be commended and we hope that people will support it.”

The event will be held at the Gainsborough Hotel, on Friday, May 10 at 7.30pm and tickets are already on sale.

People can get tickets by contacting the League of Friends on 01562 67653.

Generous readers have sent Cheques totalling £875 to The Shuttle for the appeal.

Five hundred pounds was raised during a charity rock n’ roll night, organised by Dennis and Mary Pulling and Adrienne and Brian Brickstock, at Stourport British Legion.

It is held on the first Friday of every month and has raised £24,000 for good causes since it started seven years ago.

People can make a donation to the appeal by contacting the League of Friends on 01562 67653.
