I've got to pay £100 extra per month

A ‘BEDROOM tax’ victim who suffers from kidney failure says he has been left with no choice but to fork out an extra £100 a month for his spare rooms used for his dialysis equipment.

The Shuttle reported last month that Bryan Tudor, 60, who lives ina three-bedroom house with his carer wife Elaine, 58, was told to pay the extra cash or move to a one bedroom bungalow, with no room for his dialysis machine.

He said he had not received any help, despite his unusual circumstances, since The Shuttle told of his plight.

The couple have to sleep in separate rooms, as Mr Tudor’s bedroom has the dialysis machine in it, while the spare room houses all the supplies required for the treatment.

Mr Tudor said: “We’re still in the same position. As it stands I will have to pay the extra money as there won’t be enough space in a one-bedroom bungalow. I’m annoyed really.”

He added the extra £100 a month would put financial strain on him and his wife as they could not afford it.

This might not be a popular comment, but why should anyone have 2 spare bedrooms when there are families where young children have to share?

I will need to move house in the next year or so, as I will need an extra bedroom for my expanding family.

I will need to sell my current house, with all the costs involved, and buy a more expensive house.

This will cost me a lot more that £100 per month for one bedroom, let alone two!

I sympathise with people with illness, and their needs should be met by people lucky enough to be able to work.

However, it seems to me like there is a thin line between need and greed in some of these cases.

People CHOOSE to have children! If this becomes a financial strain then simply do not have any more children than you can afford!

Pretty sure this guy has not CHOSEN to have kidney failure!

Two thirds of the households hit are home to someone who is disabled

Divorced parents whose kids come to stay are being affected. Grandparents will pay more.

The DWP admit that there are not enough smaller properties for families to move to, yet the bedroom tax will still hit households that don’t have the option to move

Nicki2008, appears you have skim read my comment.

Two SPARE bedrooms is excessive, no matter what you say. People with illnesses (as I said above, if you care to re-read) should be looked after financially by those able to work - as they currently are.

If you do not need the space, then the tax payer should not pay for you to have it.

Pretty simple really.

bcfc1186, Appears you skim read the article. His 'spare' bedrooms are taken up by his carer wife and his dialysis equipment

A 3 bedroom house doesn't necassarily mean a big house

I never said there was anything wrong with your comment, just in general that having children is a choice and if this impacts on the individuals financial situation then perhaps it's time to rethink having any more

Bcfc. I don't think you have thought through the implications of this pernicious tax. The gentleman concerned will almost certainly be getting benefits ( I would presume). He and his wife are currently in social housing, which is cheaper than private renting. So the tories decide to force them out of their cheap Social Housing into the hands of the expensive private sector. If the gentleman IS on benefits, then the Government will fund that in full. This is an ideological move by a Right wing Government with an agenda. After all the dust settles, I would bet this will end up costing even more than they pay in housing benefits at the moment.
