A BEER festival which has become a popular fixture on the Cleobury Mortimer calendar will take place this weekend.

It will be held at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club, Wyre Common, tomorrow from 5pm and Saturday from noon.

What started out in 2010 as a way to celebrate St George’s Day has attr-acted more than 2,000 beer and music enthusiasts each year. Due to that success, the 2013 event will feature more ales, ciders, food and performers than ever.

Golf club project manager Dave Pain said: “The festival has grown fantastically well over the last three years and we want to up our game so we have changed the layout of the room and the site to accommodate more people inside.”

Acts from around Cleobury Mortimer and Wyre Forest, including Lauren Wright, Sam Upton, Sam Rogers, Bring the Rope and the Wirrel Wailers will be performing and Cleobury musician Aaron Booton has organised an acoustic open mic session.

Mr Pain added: “The music brings a lot of people here. The music last year was great so we are looking forward to that again.

“The event has continued to grow and grow as word of mouth spreads and I cannot believe it is that time of year again.”

The beer festival was started by Mr Pain and his brother Tom and his uncle Graham, who were looking for a way to celebrate St George’s Day. “It is an English day and should be celebrated,” he said.

There is a charge to attend, which includes a festival glass and first drink. For more information, visit cleoburybeer festival.bigcartel.com
