TWO Stourport youngsters are preparing to stage a daring “escape from prison” and dramatic getaway across Europe as part of a national Girlguiding competition.

Lucy Fellows, 16, who last year carried the Olympic torch through Ludlow, and Sophie Turbutt, 15, will be part of the  eight-member Worcestershire team in the organisation’s Midlands jailbreak challenge.

The girls will “break out” of Droitwich headquarters tomorrow before embarking on an action-packed eight day adventure across the continent.

They will be competing against more than 100 Girlguiding members from across the Midlands, each challenged to go on the run through at least three countries completing a series of tasks, with the aim of grabbing enough points to earn their “parole”.

Lucy said her team was hoping to visit Switzerland, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium and Austria.

“I feel so honoured I was chosen to take part in this amazing opportunity and to represent my county in Girlguiding and across the continent,” she added.

“I have been to Europe on holiday but never been in so many countries in such a short space of time.”

The group’s members have raised all funds for their escapade themselves by bag packing, cake sales, entertainment evenings and selling homemade gifts.

Participants can boost their score by collecting bonus points for visiting places or attractions beginning with the letter “b”. The winners will be named when the teams return to the UK.

Lucy was nominated to carry the Olympic torch last year for coping with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). She is also a carer for her mother, who suffers from a severe form of the same condition, which causes constant joint pains and fatigue.
