Kidderminster Horticultural show offers blooming good fun
PLANT and flower enthusiasts plus families are in for a blooming good time at a major two-day Wyre Forest horticulture event.
Kidderminster Horticultural Society’s show is the standout fixture in the group’s calendar and takes place from 10am until 5.30pm tomorrow and Sunday at the Mercure Kidderminster Hotel, Habberley Road, Bewdley.
There will be a country fair alongside the traditional horticultural and flower show.
BBC television gardener Christine Walkden will officially open the event at noon on Saturday and will talk about her life and hold a book signing during the weekend. The One Show gardening expert will also take questions from keen gardeners.
Organisers are hoping for a record number of entries this year, following a hot summer.
Other activities at the 59th annual event will include a plant sale, craft stalls, displays of vintage vehicles, old agricultural tools and an old-fashioned threshing machine.
Entertainment will include dancers, cookery demonstrations, floral art, a medieval display, dog agility, a Victorian merry-go-round, puppet theatre and train rides.
Louise Aston, society member and one of the organisers, said: “We are hoping for record entries this year as we have had such a good summer.
“We are looking forward to the event and we are highly delighted Christine Walkden has agreed to come and open the show.
“It is an excellent couple of day’s entertainment – there are things for all ages.
“It is a lot of hard work to put it on – we all pull together though and, hopefully, it will all pay off.”
