TWO inspirational Kidderminster women are keeping their fingers crossed they will scoop titles at the Worcestershire Women of the Year awards .
Fiona Harris-Beard and Isobel Dale will find out if they will be crowned winners in their categories along with seven other finalists during an awards ceremony on Friday,September 27.
Mrs Harris-Beard has been nominated in the achievement award category for her efforts in setting up charity Cords4Life UK to raise awareness of umbilical cord donations.
A successful bone marrow transplant using an umbilical cord from an American baby saved her son Charlie Harris Beard’s life in 2011 before the two-year-old died in February this year, after his health deteriorated when he developed pneumonia.
Mrs Dale, chairman of Kemp Hospice, is a finalist in the voluntary award category for her work with the charity.
The 2013 awards will raise cash for Worcester’s St Richard’s Hospice and the winners will be announced during a special lunch at Fews Marquees, in Hanbury, with Olympic medal winning swimmer Sharron Davies as special guest.
Andrea Palmer, chairman of the awards, said: “This is a truly Worcestershire event, with women from all parts of the county nominated for the awards. We were delighted by the level of interest in the awards and the response in terms of the number of nominations.
“We set ourselves a high target for fund-raising and hope that as many people as possible will support St Richard’s by attending the lunch.
“Sharron Davies, our guest speaker, is an inspiring example of sporting achievement and we know our guests will enjoy listening to her story.”
