11:10am Friday 27th September 2013 in Local
A SIX-year-old girl who drowned in Kidderminster will be remembered at an event to raise cash for a riding centre that provided a horse and carriage at her funeral.
Imie Harrison died in March after she slipped and fell into the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal while trying to save her friends.
The memorial charity event will take place on Sunday – eight days after what would have been Imie’s seventh birthday – at Bissell Wood, Blakedown for the KC Horse Rescue, Carriages and Riding Centre.
Little Imie’s coffin was borne to her funeral by a horse drawn carriage provided by the trust.
Her mother Lisa said: “We want to raise money as a big thank you from the family.
“It meant everything to the family that we were able to have [the horse and carriage at Imie’s funeral]. Her love of horses and ponies was outstanding.”
The event, which starts at 10am,will be a cross-country ride around Bissell Wood.
Mrs Harrison said: “The horses will jump fences, ride around and have a bit of fun. We are going to make it as fun an event as we can. Everybody is wearing pink like they did at the funeral.”
