TWO Wyre Forest gyms have teamed up with Heart UK to highlight the dangers of raised cholesterol.

Throughout October, Wyre Forest Glades Leisure Centre and Stourport Sports Centre have been taking part in a Healthy Heart gym challenge and cholesterol-themed motivation evenings to support the National Cholesterol Week.

Customers at the two centres are being asked at reception to make a small donation to Heart UK with anyone giving £3 or more receiving a Heart UK sweatband.

Gym users will also be encouraged to take part in the gym challenge to help improve their health and fitness and make sure their heart stays healthy.

Contract manager Stuart Booton said: “I want to support Heart UK’s National Cholesterol Week because raised cholesterol is so very common, it affects six out of 10 adults and is a big risk factor for heart disease.

“But many people are unaware they have high cholesterol or that it might endanger their health. By raising awareness during the month of October we hope to help our customers be more informed and take appropriate measures to improve their cholesterol levels. Being active is one way to bring those levels down.”

Heart UK provides support for people with inherited and non-inherited high cholesterol. They also work with governing bodies and medical stakeholders to develop better methods of detection and treatment for cholesterol-related conditions.
