Company delighted with 'green grant' to cut energy bills
3:26pm Tuesday 15th October 2013 in Local
A “GREEN grant” from the West Midlands European Regional Development Fund is helping a Kidderminster company reduce its energy bill.
The money from the Resource Efficient Worcestershire Programme has enabled the Solid Surfacing Company of the Spennells Trading Estate to buy new LED lighting, which will significantly reduce its electricity costs.
Jill Reid, a director of Solid surfacing, said: "Our lighting has been poor and outdated for years, and was costing us a fortune in electricity bills. Our premises have been improved drastically by the new lighting and our workforce is much happier as a result.
“ We are now looking forward to the added benefit of reduced electricity bills."
Grants of up to £6,750 are available towards energy-efficient lighting, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, insulation, improved motors and drives, energy control systems, water-saving measures, tackling waste, behavioural change, feasibility studies and more.
Businesses are provided with a free resource efficiency assessment which looks at where energy, water and resources are being used and wasted, highlighting potential savings.
This support is aimed at Worcestershire-based small and medium-size businesses, who primarily serve other businesses.
Worcestershire County Council in partnership with Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce was awarded funding from the West Midlands European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programme for the initiative.
