Kidderminster Fairtrade status renewed
8:54am Monday 28th October 2013 in Local
FAIRTRADE campaigners in Kidderminster are celebrating the renewal of the town’s special status.
The UK's Fairtrade Foundation requires towns to renew their certificate every two years, which Kidderminster has now done successfully three times since first being recognised in 2007.
To maintain the status, the town’s Fairtrade group had to detail the work it was doing to raise the Fairtrade profile and confirm the number of retail and catering outlets supplying such products met the foundation’s criteria.
In granting the certificate, the foundation said: "It is clear from your renewal form that Fairtrade in Kidderminster is going from strength to strength.”
The group organises a variety of events, such as the recent Fairtrade Fashion show at the Academy, gives school assemblies, organises competitions and runs promotional stalls in the town centre, at carnivals and fetes.
Its chairman, Sue Cowen, said: “We are delighted the Fairtrade Foundation has renewed Kidderminster's status yet again.
“It's thanks to the people of Kidderminster who chose, for ethical reasons, to buy and use Fairtrade products that makes Kidderminster a Fairtrade Town."
