THE brave mother of Kidderminster youngster Charlie Harris-Beard, who lost his battle with leukaemia, has been shortlisted for a Tesco Mum of the Year Award.
Fiona Harris-Beard, 31, has been selected from thousands of nominations for the work she has done raising awareness of umbilical cord blood donations by setting up the charity Cords4Life.
Her son Charlie was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia when he was 10 months old and died in February aged two.
The ninth Tesco Mum of the Year awards, which celebrate inspirational mums who have made a difference to the lives of others, will take place in March next year at The Savoy Hotel in London.
The shortlisted mums will be considered by a panel including DJ Sara Cox, TV presenter Gaby Logan and former athlete Denise Lewis.
If Mrs Harris-Beard is selected to be one of the winning mums, she will be treated to a full makeover and a Tesco Living magazine photo shoot, before being presented with her award in front of friends, family and celebrity guests.
Debbie Chernin, Tesco Mum of the Year project manager, said: “We are extremely proud to be holding the Tesco Mum of the Year Awards for the ninth year. We have heard many truly incredible stories and it’s been a privilege to recognise these inspirational women.
“Everyone shortlisted has achieved something outstanding and shown selfless devotion to others. Our aim is to show every single mum just how amazing she is.”
Mrs Harris-Beard was also recently named a finalist in the Worcestershire Women of the Year Awards.
