NURSERIES and pubs in Kidderminster have helped to raise more than £2,500 to buy a five-year-old boy with cerebral palsy a specialist wheelchair.

Kidderminster-based charity Crackerjacks Children’s Trust organised the fundraising to help the young Kidderminster boy, whose family did not want him to be named, to move around more easily.

The specialised wheelchair, which cost £2,661, will offer support to the youngster’s body and allow greater ease of movement for his parents and carers.

It was supplied by Halesowen firm R82, which manufactures seating, standing and walking aids for disabled children.

Kidderminster nurseries including the Foundations Day Nursery, Kiddies Day Nursery, The Co-operative Childcare, Blue Hoots Pre-School, Heathfield Day Nursery, In B Tweenies and Woodhouse Day Nursery, of Chaddesley Corbett, held fun days were children and staff were sponsored to go to nursery dressed as Disney characters or in their pyjamas.

Kidderminster pubs including The Swan, The Three Crowns and Sugar Loaf and The Red Man held themed party nights to top up the funds.

Co-founder of the charity Terry Bull said: “It’s great when the community pull together and amazing to see what can be achieved. “People can be so generous at times like this and for this, we would like to thank them for their help and support.”

Crackerjacks was established to help children who suffer from a severe disability by providing specialised equipment and respite breaks.

The France Road-based charity is currently looking for volunteers to help in its administration department as well as companies, schools and nurseries who would like to fundraise on its behalf.
