Join the volunteers at nature reserve

NATURE enthusiasts are being invited to join a new volunteering group at a local reserve.

Mike Griffiths, the current volunteer warden at Wilden Marsh nature reserve, is hoping the monthly group will appeal to anyone who wants to get outdoors, keep fit and have fun.

The volunteer team will play a part in the manage - ment of the reserve for wild - life.

Naomi Terry, volunteer co-ordinator for Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, which owns the reserve, explained: “Wilden Marsh is a great place for wildlife and for vol - unteers too. Mike has been surveying the wildlife at Wil - den for us for some time now and it’s great that he’s now willing to run a conserva - tion work party each month.

“The group will do some of the key management of the site – clearing some of the scrub, looking after nest boxes, managing fences and recording wildlife they see.

“It’s not just about helping the trust and the wildlife – the group offers a great opportunity for people to get outside, get some fresh air and start to get fit or keep healthy.”

Wilden Marsh is an area of wet meadows and woods in the floodplain of the river Stour.

Ms Terry added: “Joining the group will give anyone interested in nature the Helping hand: Mike Griffiths and helpers at Wilden. Photo: Naomi Terry.

The group will run on the last Sunday of the month, from 10am until 3pm.
