NEW jobs could be created in Wolverley after a family business was bought by a landscape supplies company.

TG Group confirmed it had acquired Hardwicks Landscape Centre, now TG Hardwicks, on Wolverley Road, and would look to expand the business and its product line. All current members of staff will be kept on following the deal.

TG spokesman Kevin Gardner said: “As we will be looking to expand the product range, that will probably result in some more jobs coming along at the end of the spring. We employ five at the moment and there should be another couple of jobs and we will see how the business develops further.”

The trade and retail market supplier, Hardwicks, specialises in paving, rockery stone, fencing, soils and turf and will now benefit from products sold at TG Group-owned building supply stores.

Mr Gardner said there were several similarities between the two business, which were both family owned and had recently celebrated anniversaries.

Hardwicks is a family business and marked its 50th anniversary in the village last year. It was founded by the Hardwick family, who were landscapers and decided to start selling materials as opposed to fitting the products.

TG Group celebrated its 150th anniversary last year and is still owned by the Griffiths family.

Mr Gardner added: “The Hardwicks had developed a good business in selling landscaping materials. It is a well-established business in the area and the name is well respected.”

Tudor Griffiths, TG Group managing director, added: “Both the TG Group and Hardwicks are long-standing family businesses and this provided the perfect basis to bring together our combined expertise and product knowledge for the benefit of customers.

“All Hardwicks staff are being retained in the new company, which will trade as TG Hardwicks, and it is our intention to expand the Hardwicks stock range by adding many of the building, plumbing, agricultural, DIY products that are currently sold by existing TG Building Merchants outlets.

“Hardwicks will add a new dimension to the TG Group’s landscape supplies operations.”
