THOUSANDS of pounds worth of footwear has been stolen during a burglary at a Kidderminster store.

The incident happened at Shoe Zone in Vicar Street, between 4pm on Sunday, February 2 and 8.30am the next day.

The offenders got on to the roof of the store and prised a cover off a trap door to gain entry to the stock room and then went down into the main part of the store.

They stole handbags and numerous pairs of footwear and tried to break into the safe but were unable to do so.

They also stole a kettle, toaster and microwave before leaving through the rear fire exit which opens on to the loading area.

It is not yet known how many items were stolen or what the value is but the total is expected to be thousands of pounds. Damage caused to the roof and an office door will cost about £150 in total to repair.

PC Rebecca Smith, of West Mercia Police, said: "Shoe Zone will be conducting an audit to establish exactly what was stolen, however, we do know among the goods taken were a quantity of handbags, wellington boots and children's slippers.

"The offences used black rubbish sacks to carry away the stolen shoes and bags. Given the quantity of what was stolen, it is likely they had access to a vehicle."
