MEMBERS of Kidderminster's CAMRA sub-branch have voted to become a branch in their own right.

Steady recruitment over the past year was boosted by a surge in membership at last year’s Kidderminster Beer Festival. Membership has risen from 190 to 270 and members are confident that 300 will be achieved at this year's beer festival, if not before.

The decision to set up the new branch was taken during its annual meeting at Severn Valley Railway in Kidderminster.

Previously, Kidderminster was a sub-branch of CAMRA’s Redditch and Bromsgrove Branch. The sub-branch’s ability to organise a successful beer festival was recognised regionally and nationally. Regional director Gary Timmins expressed support for its new status.

Officers have been voted into place and the newly-formed Wyre Forest Branch of CAMRA will soon have a new logo and be in charge of its own finances.

Meanwhile, work is advanced on this year’s beer festival at Kidderminster Town Hall, from May 22 to 24 inclusive. As well as local ales, ciders, perries and wine, this year it will feature a range of beers from coastal breweries.
