MORE than 100 Kidderminster College students took part in this year’s six book challenge, which encourages pupils to read six books during their own free time.

It is the third year students have taken part in the scheme, which is part of a joint initiative with the town’s library .

Jackie O’Brien, college learning resource co-ordinator, said: “I have been delighted with this year’s response.

“All of the students are encouraged to join the public library so they can access a wider range of books than just the college’s own library.”

The number of students who took part in this year’s challenge increased to 120 from the 85 of last year including Megan Ferr, Tania Clarke, Hayden Stanyard, Kelly Purser and Aimee Goode.

Mrs O’Brien added: “With the increasing use of electronic devices, we find many students no longer read as many books as they used to but this challenge encourages them and inspires them to enjoy reading and using their own imaginations.”

All students who completed the challenge received a certificate and a mug.
