A CAFE in Kidderminster which was forced to close and relocate after plans to build 31 homes on its site were given the go-ahead has applied for permission to open at a new location.

AJ’s Diner had been based at the Harriers Industrial Estate, Stadium Close, for about 20 years but closed at the end of last month after the planning application for the homes to be built on the site was approved by Wyre Forest District Council’s planning committee.

Bosses at the popular cafe have now submitted a planning application of their own. If it is approved, it will see AJ’s Diner re-open at 14 Comberton Place, off Comberton Hill, next to Kidderminster Magistrates Court, near its former location.

The application submitted to Wyre Forest District Council planners is for a change of use of the ground floor of the building to restaurant and cafe. A consultation period on the application is currently underway and ends on Thursday, June 12.

Documents show an extractor fan would be placed at the back of the building and an illuminated sign at the front.

If successful, the cafe’s opening times will be 7am until 4pm from Monday to Friday, 7am to 2pm on Saturdays and 8am to 2pm on Sundays.

If the application is approved, AJ’s could re-open by the end of June.

AJs was one of about 10 business affected after the housing proposals submitted by UK Construction and Wyre Forest Community Housing were approved for the Harriers Industrial Estate site, which is next to the Aggborough football ground.
