MORE teachers will be able to participate in a new Kidderminster free school’s activities and events after a vote took place to form a new group.

The Parents’ Association (PA) at the Birmingham Road-based Holy Trinity International School - which will become Holy Trinity Free School from September - voted to reform as a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) with immediate effect, as more teachers want to get involved in organising events currently run by the PA.

PA chairman Michelle Howles said: “This is fantastic news that we are to become a PTA, as opposed to a PA, meaning we can have a much more inclusive membership than just being open to school parents. Teachers can offer invaluable insights into the needs of the children while at school, bring new ideas to the committee for fundraising activities and make suggestions for projects to be supported using PTA funds.

“Also, with the new free school opening in September, becoming a PTA will enable parents and teachers alike the chance to enrich the lives of the children during their time at Holy Trinity, while being part of a fun friendly and sociable community.”

As a member of the national organisation PTA-UK and following consultation and a vote, the PA has now formally adopted the PTA constitution and applied for charitable status, which means all future PTA fundraising activities, including the summer fair this Saturday, will benefit from having charitable status.

Mrs Howles added: “The only constant is change with organisations such as ours and by extending the PA community to include other adults who have the childrens’ best interests at heart will mean more enriching activities, greater fundraising for events such as our summer fair and, as a result, the ability to fund even more items for the benefit of the school’s students.”
