AN award-winning photographer has captured the beauty of Bewdley’s famous poppy fields in a series of shots.

Alan Ranger, who won three awards at the Landscape Photographer of the Year competition in 2013, snapped the Blackstone Farm nature reserve over the last few years.

He said: “I was completely captivated by the sea of red that waved silently in the sunlight.

“I was bewildered by thoughts of what First World War soldiers may have been thinking, after their traumatic experiences, and what they would have been contemplating while presented with enduring fields of deep blood red petals, juxtaposed with the utter emptiness of the desolated landscapes of Western Europe.”

The nature reserve, which is owned and managed by local conservation charity Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, is a popular tourist attraction during the summer months.
