A BLAKEDOWN beauty queen is swapping her heels for a pair of trainers as she aims to raise money in a charity fun run.

Katie Stamps, 21, is the current Miss Birmingham and will take to the city’s Cannon Hill Park for the Birmingham Big Fun Run, raising money for cancer support charity Macmillan.

She admitted the 5k run, which takes place on September 20, would be hard for her, as she was not a strong runner. “I struggle to make it to the end of the road and back,” she said.

“I am very conscious about maintaining a healthy body and lifestyle, however, so I wanted to set myself the challenge of bringing my cardio up to speed.

“In order to discipline myself I wanted to set myself a goal to train for and work toward and thought I could use this as a great way to raise some money for charity too.”

Miss Stamps has set herself a fundraising target of £1,000 for the “amazing” charity.

She said: “I'll be doing what I can in between now and my run to ensure I meet the target as Macmillan is such an amazing charity and worthwhile cause.

“Cancer is a disease that will, unfortunately, touch almost every life at some point or another and the work Macmillan does to help is remarkable and life changing for those affected.

“The Macmillan staff are wonderful people, who need the funding to keep doing the amazing job that they are, so to be a part of that and help raise some money would mean the world to me.”

Macmillan provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer.

Alongside helping with the medical needs of people affected by cancer, the charity also looks at the social, emotional and practical impact cancer can have and campaigns for better care.
