A KIDDERMINSTER boy who needs £15,000 for a life-changing operation is in line for a fundraising boost after staff at his Worcestershire school backed his appeal.

Mason Jackson, a student at Chadsgrove School and Specialist Sports College in Catshill, has cerebral palsy and needs the money for the muscle-loosening procedure Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) which is not available on the NHS.

His family have so far raised more than £10,500, which will cover the costs of the initial operation, but still need around £4,500 to fund essential physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and equipment, and staff at his school are lending a hand.

In August teachers and teaching assistants from the Meadow Road-based school took part in the Three Peaks Challenge to raise money.

For their next fundraiser, staff from form 7LS at the school have been taking weekly sessions to learn how to ring bells at St John's Church, off Kidderminster Road.

On Saturday, September 20, a team from the school will be collecting for Mason in Bromsgrove High Street between 11am and 12.30pm and during this period staff members will be ringing the church's bells.

They will be taking it in turns, 20 minutes each, to ensure the bells continuously ring.

Avril Edwards, who will be collecting on the day, said the team had been working hard for the challenge and they were hoping to raise as much as possible on the day.
