A MUSIC student is getting ready for his career to soar as he provides technical and musical support for an American rock band as they tour the UK and Europe.

Connor Di Leo, who studies at Kidderminster College, will be taking to the road with Black Stone Cherry for 30 days, through 21 cities and at major arenas like the LG in Birmingham, making sure the drum kit is ready to play for the concerts.

But, not only will the 18-year-old be tech-ing the equipment, he and his band, The Wychbury Cartel, will be warming up fans on The Forum stage at the LG Arena on October 30.

Connor said: “To have the opportunity to go on this major tour with the band is a dream come true for me and I am really looking forward to it. I have been a big fan of Black Stone Cherry for some years and have got to know the drummer, John Fred Young, very well. It will be great to spend some more time with John Fred so I can learn even more about what makes a great drummer.”

The BTEC Music Practice student, who is being taught at the college by drummer Andy Edwards, who drummed for Robert Plant between 1997 and 2001, on the tour from Friday, October 3.

“My tutor, Andy Edwards, is himself a renowned drummer and I have learned so much from him and feel honoured that John Fred is to trust me with ensuring his drums are perfect for this major stadium tour,” Connor added.

While Connor is on the tour, he will also be assessed for his level 3 extended diploma. He plans to use his experience from the tour to pursue his ambition to become a businessman, hoping to study at university after he completes his course.
