LOCAL students were among those to be awarded £1000 scholarships from the University of Worcester.

The scholarships were awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement throughout the 2013/14 academic year and among the recipients were 20 year-old Gemma Bagnall from Stourport and 21 year-old Josh Humphries from Kidderminster.

Miss Bagnall, a third year Primary Initial Teacher Education student, said: “It was a really lovely surprise to receive a scholarship. I am very lucky to be doing a degree that I love and that allows me to follow my passion, so it doesn’t really feel like hard work.

“I am now really looking forward to a career in education, with such a strong foundation built up through my studies at the University of Worcester.”

Mr Humphries, who is in his third year of his Conservation Ecology degree, said: “I’m completely overjoyed to be awarded a second scholarship for my time at Worcester.

“I am very grateful for the ongoing support provided by my family, lecturers and university, giving me the motivation to keep me moving towards my goals.”

In all 112 students were presented with scholarships by the University’s Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor David Green on Thursday October 9 and Friday October 10.
