BEWDLEY’S mayor is getting ready to flick the switch that will light up the town in time for Christmas.

Derek Killingworth will be playing an important part in next Saturdays (November 29) festival when he switches on the lights with the Bewdley Carnival princesses and Father Christmas.

It will be the second time Mr Killingworth, who was elected to the role for a second time in May, has turned on the lights in the town and is looking forward to the big countdown to Christmas.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to it, I am always proud to promote the event.

“The event is usually a huge success and very well attended by all.

“I have invited other Mayor’s and dignitaries to the event.”

A parade, led by the Children’s Nativity Group, will set off at 5.15pm before the lights are switched on by Mr Killingworth, the carnival princesses and Father Christmas at 5.30pm.

Mr Killingworth added: “Many local charities have stalls on the day to raise funds and the young people obviously look forward to seeing Father Christmas, far more interesting than me.

“I am always proud to represent the town of Bewdley.”
